THE TOWN OF 1770

Captain James Cook became the first European to step ashore in Queensland.
The date was May 24, 1770 and to mark that historic event, this delightdful settlement was named after the year of his landing.
So much water surrounds this town, resulting in numerous water activites - the mighty Larc, jet skiing.
Off shore sits Lady Musgrave Island on the Great Barrier Reef. Turtles laying eggs, hatchlngs waddling to sea. Swimming up close to turtles.
Celebrations every year to mark Cook's landing.
Walks, kangaroo sanctuaries, home distilleries.
