SMILING SUSAN ELLIOTT
Presenter
She's always smiling, no matter how challenging the assignment, like the heart of the Antarctic she loves travelling to.
Susan is an award-winning travel writer who was born with itchy feet. She'd travelled 30 countries before the age of 30 and has now ticked off close to 50.
A journalism graduate, she was on the launch team of the Bunbury Telegraph newspaper before walking into the newsroom of Golden West Network where she spent 2 years reporting and reading the evening news, before joining Seven News in Sydney as a reporter.
Her career has included stints with Channel Nine ("Today Show" features reporter) and Network Ten (South East Asia correspondent, based in Darwin). There have been some offbeat adventures too: working as a cook on a prawn trawler in the Gulf of Carpentaria (18 amazing months! She cooks up an awesome Chilli prawn linguine) ) and for a commanding German baron in Monaco as his Public Relations advisor (travelling the world selling mountain bikes not knowing the baron was an arms dealer. Gulp!)
Susan presented and produced for Channel Seven's SYDNEY WEEKENDER for more than a decade before moving to travel writing which has taken her to the Antarctic (twice by sea, four times by air), across Outback Australia, South America, the Galapagos, her homeland of New Zealand, through Europe and Asia and on safari in South Africa.
When home, she loves to host gourmet dinners showcasing the cuisine from her latest adventure!
Susan is the 2024 winner of the Best International Story (under 1000 words) for her feature story on the Galapagos Islands for MiNDFOOD Magazine. Awarded by Australia's prestigious Australian Society of Travel Writers.
These days Susan has joined the team at Travel Oz, reporting on adventures from Western Australia to the Antarctic. Her smile is getting bigger.
